Help with piano stage fright!?
I play piano, and up until I was about 13 years old I could play in front of people with no problem. But now that I'm starting to memorize songs, I'll practice the song hundreds of times and play it perfect, then go up to perform and completely forget the whole thing! I'm about to go play now in an hour or so, and I just KNOW I'm going to mess up. I take deep breaths...I try to relax...but it just doesn't work. What can I do?
I HAVE to memorize it >:(
Basically, when you're a child you don't care as much about what other people think, when you get older you get more and more self-conscious. All you need to do is try to make it so that you don't care what the audience think.
A good thing to do is never play to the audience, play to yourself. When people practice, they play to themselves, but when they perform they tend to try and play to the crowd. If you do that, you concentrate on the crowd alot more, instead of concentrating on the piano.
Another thing, never practice on the day of show, unless you think you desperately need to.
