What is a good quality starters guitar to begin with a jazz type electric hollow body I am told is the best ?

I am of the opinion that a hollow bodies do not sound that much different than a guitar with an appropriate EQ until you spend a bit of cash. Any heavy, solid wood electric with a good bridge and nut will sustain just as good as any mid level hollow body, and sound better. So any good Les Paul, Schecter, mahogany guitar will sound great for jazz (and EQ pedal).
Now at some point, when you get great pickups in a real full hollowbody, you can hear real subtle differences, especially with a piezo pickup. For example, the Emporer Joe Pass guitar not only sounds great, but starts to play itself almost. Now, these guitars have wide necks and nuts, so if you want to practice then you could get a cheap hollowbody, but it won't sound that much greater than any other good guitar of similar class.
