Not quite classical repertoire for a retired operatic tenor?
I've been doing some small gigs, mostly pro bono with a retired opera singer (as his accompanist). He still has a true tenor range that extends beyond high C and mainly sings operatic arias, Italian canzoni, lieder and so forth. However since most of the situations when he's asked to sing aren't that highbrow he could add a few non-classical songs to his repertoire, evergreens, musical tunes, whatnot. Any suggestions? The fellow is in his sixties and not too knowledgeable about music outside the classical field so nothing TOO contemporary. Thanks!
